PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

Disclaimers

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

Credits

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

here, to courtyard ??? of him Raba ??? it was ??? fruits and he took it out outwards What then? to return it ??? a courtyward He said to him is permitted. to courtyard ??? What then? He said to him is forbidden and what is the difference here, ??? He ascended ??? there i.e., in another mishna No. ??? Here in this case, ??? Back to the main body of the text: he is required Rav Bibi son of Abaye ??? bread ??? they permitted to him ??? before ??? to suffer lit, to the hands of ??? A sin-offering or they did not permit He said to him Rav Acha son of Abaye ??? How so? Shall I say in error and not ??? for him for one they permitted So rather, Is this not ??? who he is obligated For it was taught in a mishna: all ??? sin-offerings are not they are obligated until that it should be ??? except with intent before ??? to suffer lit, to the hands of prohibits stoning should bring himself Rav Shila said In reality lit: In the world in error and for one they permitted to others He disagreed with this Rav Sheishet And so say to a person Watch out for leading vav he sinned so that ??? except Rav Ashi said In reality lit: In the world with intent and so go ahead and say before ??? to suffer lit, to the hands of prohibits stoning Rav Acha the son of of Raba he would say over to it clearly and explicitly Rav said ??? son of Abaye ??? bread ??? they permitted to him ??? before ??? to suffer lit, to the hands of prohibits ??? the poor ??? why is it that he is liable Hey, isn't it the case that in the case of ??? from by regarding a place four on four there is not in this case. Rabbah said So, with whom does it agree? Rabbi Akiva for he said: No. in the case of a place four on four For it was taught in a baraita ??? for the domain Watch out for leading vav or the individual to domain Watch out for leading vav or the individual or the domain the public in the midst of Rabbi Akiva he is obligated and the sages ??? Rabbi Akiva reasoned say ??? is comparable And the rabbbis reason that we do not say ??? is comparable This comes to imply ??? for him ??? is comparable

in the midst of ten ??? Hey, isn't it the case that ??? he is required to it Rabbah who seeks Rabbah to the bottom ??? In this case, ??? reasoned ??? is comparable And the rabbbis reason that we do not say ??? is comparable but: is more ??? the words of all are is exempt ??? No. ??? or perhaps, is more ??? In this case, ??? reasoned ??? And the rabbbis reason that No. ??? but: to the bottom ??? the words of all are he is liable What is the reason? say ??? is comparable This does not present any difficulty because there is no contradiction according to ??? he returns ??? for him ??? Rabbi Akiva ??? is comparable and perhaps, ??? he that is not ??? this one ??? except Rav Yosef said So, with whom does it agree? Rabbi She Which Rabbi Shall I say this one R' as it is taught: In a case where he sprinkled the blood --- ??? atop על גבי ??? Any thing that was Rabbi he is obligated and the sages ??? there i.e., in another mishna ??? to say ??? for Abaye said: Here in this case, by a tree ??? in a personal domain ??? In a case where he sprinkled the blood --- ??? For R' reasoned ??? my field ??? according to ??? And the rabbbis reason that No. ??? my field ??? according to ??? but how do you reconcile that with this teaching R' as it is taught: In a case where he sprinkled the blood --- ??? in the midst of R' he is obligated and the sages ??? And Rav Yehudah said that Shmuel said he is obligated he was R' two One It is because of this: ??? and one ??? Perhaps, it does not require ??? and not ??? atop על גבי a place four on four this one it was said: He ascended Rav And for Shmuel that they said ???
