PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

Disclaimers

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

Here in this case, ??? he is liable on all work ??? dividing among the guests ??? From where do we derive this? Shmuel said Scripture states: (Ex. 31) ??? shall certainly die" the Torah ??? in great quantity on ??? one This with intent it is written if he does not one topic ??? As it is written (Ex. 35) Anyone who does work ??? one topic ??? And what does it mean when it says ??? Is it not enough for him dividing among the guests ??? for him to R' he gave as it is taught: R' Natan says: (Ex. 35) No. ??? fire in all ??? by day the Sabbath Just as Scripture states: on account of as it is said (Ex. 35) ??? Moses all ??? the Children of Israel ??? the things etc. ??? days shall you do work items the things ??? the things these thirty and nine ??? to Moses at Sinai It is possible ??? all of them ??? one he is not liable except One Scripture states: (Ex. 34) ??? One that it there are there are that it One One Shimon ???

דף ע,ב גמרא

in that place ??? there are the forefathers ??? One that it there are ??? Sabbath ??? there are that it One ??? Sabbath ??? And for Shmuel One that it there are and behold that it One No. ??? Raba brought this very question ??? both this and this in his hand What then? He said to him Behold! ??? Sabbath in his hand and he is not liable except One ??? Behold! ??? in his hand he is liable on all One and one except Rav Ashi said ??? If it was It is because of this: Sabbath ??? Behold! ??? Sabbath in his hand and he is not liable except One and if It is because of this: work ??? Behold! ??? in his hand he is liable on all One and one He said to him Ravina to Rav Ashi anything ??? except It is because of this: ??? anything ??? except It is because of this: Sabbath except there is no difference We have learnt in a Mishna: root categories of forbidden labor on Shabbat forty minus one and we were at of it ??? why do I have and R' Yochanan said: ??? all of them ??? one he is liable on all One and one If you say, This is satisfactory ??? both this and this in his hand he is liable on all One and one then the ruling is acceptable. except If you say, ??? Sabbath in his hand he is not liable except One in what way does It concerns itself ??? Sabbath ??? This is satistfactory If it was reasoned for him like Rabbi Yochanan for he said: immediately ??? despite the fact ??? It concerns itself ??? for him Sabbath ??? except If it was derive it like Rabbi Shimon son of ??? for he said: until ??? and he is spiritually cut off ??? for him Sabbath in what way ??? to it ??? and who follow the reasoning ??? of Rabbi ??? Rabba said: ??? Sabbath ??? and he returned ??? Sabbath ??? to him on ??? of ??? Sabbath ??? and he returned ??? to him on ??? and on ??? of ??? Sabbath ???
