PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

Disclaimers

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

But here, in this case, (Lev. 23) ??? it is written and that one ??? in reality he Come and learn from this. Perhaps, his reasoning is Raba the commandments yes. require concentration and intent. ??? one who was reading in the Torah and the time for the reading of Shema arrived if he concentrated his heart he has fulfilled his obligation And if not, He has not fulfilled his obligation. Is this not he concentrated his heart to go out No. to read to read This one comes to a seminal emission ??? Come and hear: he was transgresses behind the House of Assembly i.e., the synagogue or that he was his house immediately adjacent lit: leaning to the House of Assembly i.e., the synagogue and he heard the voice of shofar or the voice of megillah if he concentrated his heart he has fulfilled his obligation And if not, He has not fulfilled his obligation. Is this not if he concentrated his heart to go out No. to hear to hear Hey, isn't it the case that "Hear!" ??? a donkey in reality he ??? listen and not ??? and not ??? listen He has not fulfilled his obligation. until ??? listen ??? This is satisfactory ??? and not ??? listen ??? a donkey in reality he except ??? listen and not ??? in what way does It concerns itself Is this not ??? Perhaps that he came ??? He said to him Abaye Except I can object with text from here: one who sleeps ??? in a sukkah ??? He said to him: for I say the commandments he does not transgresses about them except ??? He challenged this "He" meaning... Watch out for leading vav And Rav Shman??? bar Abba from where do we learn ??? that did not have it is said Because it was given for me Torah is a voluntary act to bless Israel ??? one blessing ??? For example, (Deut. 1) Hashem the God of ??? Joseph ??? Scripture states: (Deut. 4) No. ??? on ??? Hey, isn't it the case that Here in this case, immediately ??? for him ??? for him ??? And we have learned that passed over is Here in this case, with what are we dealing? that it was not the case that he closes For it was taught: he closes he closes one blessing For it was taught: he closes all ??? that I Here in this case, immediately ??? for him the congregation other than this he returns he makes the blessing completely day ??? he ??? For it was taught in a baraita ??? as a gift One ??? One presentation of the blood ??? One presentation of the blood the giving of four ??? four ??? four the giving of four ??? One Rabbi Eliezer says ??? four Rabbi Yehoshua says: ??? One He said to him: ??? Behold! he transgresses on ??? He said to him: R' Yehoshua Behold! he transgresses on ??? He said to him ??? It is not said ??? except ??? about himself. He said to him: R' Yehoshua It is not said ??? except ??? about himself. And furthermore, Rabbi Yehoshua said: ??? on ??? and not you did It once happened into your hand ??? on ??? and You did It once happened into your hand Hey, isn't it the case that Here in this case, immediately ??? for him gifts ??? for him ??? And we have learned that passed over is It is because of this: ??? Is this not It is because of this: ??? immediately For this ??? for him ??? other than this he returns from this of him completely day ??? Perhaps his reasoning is R' Yehoshua the commandments transgresses about them Even if that did not have ??? We thus we say it. Watch out for leading vav And Rav Shman??? bar Abba What is the reason מאי טעמא ??? Our mishna What is the reason מאי טעמא No. ??? immediately For this ??? for him ??? other than this he is required from this of him completely day ??? he ??? also immediately For if it was ??? the congregation other than this he returns he makes the blessing completely day ??? And Rav Shman??? bar Abba there i.e., in another mishna No. ??? that is not he will give Here in this case, If it was he is required he makes the blessing If it was he is required No. he makes the blessing Rava said: to go out it does not require concentration and intent. to cross over he is required concentration and intent. Hey, isn't it the case that the giving of ??? to Rabbi Joshua ??? and it does not require concentration and intent. except Rabba said: to go out it does not require concentration and intent. to cross over ??? it does not require concentration and intent. that did not have ??? he is required concentration and intent.
