PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

Credits

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

except ??? that you said ??? This is satisfactory for one for he said: is not essential So, with whom does it agree? it is R' Yehudah except ??? So, with whom does it agree? It was taught by a commandment ??? Come and hear: a commandment ??? No. ??? and not The thangkgiving-offering is valid And if you say Here, too, ??? I would say at the end of the teaching, Rabbi Shimon says: No. ??? is valid No. The thangkgiving-offering is invalid, What then does it mean when it says No. ??? Shall I say No. ??? from this general principle it would follow of Rabbi Shimon reasoned ??? For it was taught: did he die one from them sends his fellow that did not have ??? these are the words of Rabbi Shimon R' Shimon No. know What then does it mean when it says ??? rabbis and thus he comes to say them If it was ??? actually and really ??? If it was ??? we were ??? Come and hear: A bull is essential. ??? and a male goat yes. is essential. ??? This is satisfactory A bull is essential. ??? For if it was ??? A bull No. a slave and not anything except a male goat yes. is essential. ??? What then does it mean when it says ??? Shall I say For if it was ??? presentations ??? presentations ??? inside ??? it is written in them? except Is this not ??? presentations ??? inside ??? is not essential ??? also is not essential No. ??? presentations ??? with the altar ??? presentations ??? and it is Rabbi Yehudah for he said: items ??? outside No. ??? Hey, isn't it the case that ??? The tanna teaches: but how do you reconcile that with this teaching with whom does it agree? Rabbi Shimon She for he said: ??? is not essential And if you wish, I would say In reality lit: In the world it is Rabbi Yehudah ??? is not essential ??? from this ??? as it is taught:

דף מ,ב גמרא

(Lev. 16) he raised up ??? before Hashem ??? upon it until when it shall be ??? to stand ??? until ??? the giving of ??? of his fellow these are the words of Rabbi Yehudah. Rabbi Shimon says: until ??? items in what way ??? As it is taught: ??? is what the scripture says. And thus it says (Lev. 16) and a bride. atones that which was sanctified for Temple use Just as there ??? Even here, ??? these are the words of Rabbi Yehudah. R' Shimon says ??? upon it ??? items is what the scripture says. Come and hear: They asked ??? Rabbi Akiva He ascended ??? What then? ??? He said to them: to ??? a place ??? The reason is ??? a place ??? this one Is this not thus ??? for him Hey, isn't it the case that is what you say? Do you really mean that? ??? And because of the fact ??? in what way does ??? for him Rabba said: thus ??? He ascended ??? What then? ??? to him ??? He said to them: to ??? a place ??? Come and hear: Watch out for leading vav !! And even it is said ??? who upon it I was says he places upon it Scripture states: He ascended immediately that for the remainder ascended it is not necessary for him for what Shall I say ??? from this general principle it would follow ??? a commandment also No. except Is this not ??? And learn from this ??? is not essential Rabba said: thus he comes to say i.e., what he really means is: Watch out for leading vav !! And even it is said who upon it I was says he places upon it until ??? Scripture states: who He ascended immediately that for the remainder ascended it is not necessary for him Come and hear: (Lev. 16) ??? A sin-offering ??? A sin-offering And there is no meaning to the word the Name ??? that it is possible Is it not the case that It would be a logical inference for just as in a place that did not have ??? the Name a place ??? is it not logical ??? the Name Scripture states: ??? A sin-offering ??? makes A sin-offering And there is no meaning to the word the Name makes A sin-offering
