PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

When Rav Dimi came R' Elazar said give thanks R' Yehudah ??? give thanks R' Yehudah ??? Consider this case: ??? of it how much ??? And we have learned Rabbi Yehudah says No. they were bring in ??? except ??? Abayye said: No. ??? Rava said: No. they were bring in ??? all the essence ??? whose knowledge of the infant that is large upon it lest Let him bring forth his head or one of the limbs ???

דף כא,ב גמרא

in the grave ??? This teaching is consistent with the position of Raba R' Yehuda says: No. they were bring in ??? all the essence because of whose knowledge of the infant that is large upon it lest Let him bring forth his head or one of the limbs ??? in the grave ??? except bring in ??? they sit on ??? of the stone ??? They descended ??? and if they put it up on the altar ??? to them on ??? Consider this case: a bed ??? of it how much ??? and we have learnt in a Mishna: R' Yehuda says: ??? we were that we were they sleep under the mattress before the elders that I a bed Because ??? also ??? For he came ??? R' Elazar said that I ??? Because ??? on ??? because of the sun ??? because of the rains If so, a bed also Because ??? on ??? except Rabba said: that I ??? Because ??? on My son, ??? that are theirs as it is said (Job 10) ??? meat ??? In this case, ??? one master reasons that will come ??? casual nullify ??? fixed and one master reasons that No. will come ??? casual nullify ??? Thus said Rabbi Shimon It once happened with Tuvi ??? It was taught: Thus said Rabbi Shimon ??? of Rabban Gamliel we have learned two items we have learned that slaves are exempt from the sukkah and we have learned that the one who sleeps under the mattress he has not fulfilled his obligation. Lit., he has not caused his obligation to go out from his hands. and let us say, ??? of Rabban Gamliel the validity ??? Come and learn from this. This is like for he said: Rav Acha son of ??? And there are those who say it was Rav Acha said son of ??? Rav Hamnunah said Rav said from where do we learn ??? scholars it requires ??? as it is said (Ps. 1) ??? No. ???

דף כא,ב משנה

the one who leans his sukkah ??? the mattress is valid R' Yehuda says: if it is not possible for the sukkah to stand in its own right is invalid

דף כא,ב גמרא

What is the reason מאי טעמא of Rabbi Yehudah They disagreed about this, Rabbi Zeira And Rabbi Abba son of ??? One says because of that it does not have fixed and one says because of ??? In the matter ??? What then does it mean when it says ??? For example, ??? of ??? and the thatched roof upon them for one for he said: on account of that it does not have fixed Behold! there are to it fixed and the one who said because of ??? In the matter ??? Behold! ??? In the matter ??? Abayye said: They did not teach such a ruling except ??? but: the thatched roof for the sake of the mattress is valid What is the reason? for one for he said: on account of that it does not have fixed Behold! there are to it fixed for one for he said: because of ??? In the matter ??? Behold! yes. ??? In the matter ???
