Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

Disclaimers

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

דף ח,א משנה

There is no difference between the one who has vowed to abstain from benefit from his fellow and one who has vowed to abstain from benefiting from him i.e., from his friend, specifically in matters from food except setting foot on land owned by his fellow and vessels that are not used for the needs of food for the soul

דף ח,א גמרא

Hey, in the matter of vessels that are used for the needs of food for the soul both this and this are equivalent.

Regarding what the Mishna had stated: Setting foot in property owned by one's fellow Hey, but people are not particular about this Rabba said: So, with whom does it agree? Rabbi Eliezer for he said: even a thing that is usually "and it shall be permitted" i.e., about which people are usually lax is forbidden in the case of one who has sworn not to enjoy benefit

דף ח,א משנה

There is no difference between nedarim-vows to bring an offering and nedavot free-will offerings Rather: that nedarim-vows the one who vowed he is liable to replace them if they become lost or invalid and nedavot free-will offerings he is not liable to replace them

דף ח,א גמרא

this one in the matter of ??? both this and this they agree It was taught there: If it was ??? One who says Behold! by the an elevation-offering What is an example of one ??? One who says Behold! This is an elevation-offering for just as between nedarim-vows to bring an offering and nedavot free-will offerings nedarim-vows to bring an offering Watch out for leading vav !! and they died? or ??? or he loses it he is liable to replace them nedavot free-will offerings Watch out for leading vav !! and they died? or ??? or he loses it he is not liable to replace them ??? words For the Rabbis taught (Lev. 1) ??? to him ??? upon it R' Shimon says ??? he is liable ??? and that is not upon it he is not liable ??? What is to be heard to support this reading? R' Yitzchak said son of ??? immediately for he said: by the like who ??? he is equivalent.

דף ח,א משנה

There is no difference between One suffering from gonorrhea who sees two appearances of discharge and one who sees three except bringing an offering

דף ח,א גמרא

this one in the matter of ??? and of dwelling ??? seven both this and this they agree ??? words For the Rabbis taught Rabbi ??? says a maneh worth one hundred dinars the scripture two and they read tamei three and they read tamei How so? two ??? and three ??? and I will say two ??? and not ??? three ??? and not ??? is what you say? Do you really mean that? before it was even the case that he saw three he saw two and I will say two ??? and not ??? three Even ??? Don't let it enter your mind! as it is taught: (Lev. 15) ??? upon it ??? before Hashem ??? a small portion of ??? bring in sacrifice and a small portion of ??? yes. bring in sacrifice How so? he saw three sends two he does not sends Or perhaps, except he saw two sends he saw three he does not sends is what you say? Do you really mean that? before it was even the case that he saw three he saw two and It is necessary to teach this of Rabbi ??? and It is necessary to teach this ??? For if it was from that of Rabbi ??? then I might incorrectly say: For ??? Come and hear from this. ??? and if ??? No. ??? how much appearances Come and hear from this. of Rabbi ??? and now that you said ??? (Lev. 15) And so Watch out for leading vav "veyithar" ??? What then does it mean when it says ??? of him. This certain individual should bring himself to account for that which was taught And so Watch out for leading vav "veyithar" ??? and not ??? on One suffering from gonorrhea the master of two appearances ??? seven Is it not the case that It would be a logical inference if become tamei ??? and of dwelling No. ??? required ??? seven

דף ח,ב גמרא

??? day opposite day ??? and of dwelling It is not require ??? seven And even you to ??? on this ??? and of dwelling No. ??? required ??? seven Therefore, scripture states: ??? a small portion of ??? on One suffering from gonorrhea the master of two appearances ??? seven He said to him: Rav ??? what is the difference here, This ??? of him. One suffering from gonorrhea the master of two appearances and what is the difference here, This ??? of him. One suffering from gonorrhea the master of two appearances He said to him: If it was You might have thought This ??? he who has arrived ??? he read of him And if you say We come to compare ??? day opposite day ??? And if you say This should bring himself ??? and not ??? If so, ??? he read And so Watch out for leading vav "veyithar" ??? why do I have ??? on One suffering from gonorrhea the master of two appearances ??? seven

דף ח,ב משנה

There is no difference between one suffering from tzara'at who has been isolated for observation to see whether the tzaraat is fullblown to a metzorah who has been confirmed except letting the hair grow and tearing the clothing There is no difference between one who has been declared tahor after being isolated and one who is tahor after being confirmed except shaving and, regarding offering, and birds

דף ח,ב גמרא

this one in the matter of ??? both this and this they agree ??? words For Rav learned: Shmuel son of Isaac in front For Rav Huna (Lev. 13) ??? She ??? "vetaher"? tahor ??? and tearing the clothing originally Raba said to him Except I can object with text from here: regarding One suffering from gonorrhea As it is written (Lev. 15) ??? "vetaher"? there i.e., in another mishna Watch out for leading vav And what does "vetaher" mean? from the beginning that it is possible except tahor now ??? implements of pottery ??? even though ??? Look, No. become tamei at the end of eating, before they leave So, here, tahor ??? except Rabba said: from here (Lev. 13) ??? who in it ??? who ??? that is hanging ??? he has fulfilled his obligation this that do not ??? that is hanging ??? except ??? Abaye said to him: Except I can object with text from here: (Lev. 13) all my days: who ??? in it ??? who ??? that is hanging ??? he ??? and those that do not ??? that is hanging ??? yes. required ??? And if you say Here, too, Hey, isn't it the case that The tanna teaches: There is no difference between one suffering from tzara'at who has been isolated to a metzorah who has been confirmed except letting the hair grow and tearing the clothing this one in the matter of ??? and to become tamei, ??? both this and this they agree He said to him my days: all my days: ??? one suffering from tzara'at who has been isolated ??? If so, shaving ??? What is the reason מאי טעמא No. where he teaches There is no difference between tahor after being isolated and one who is tahor after being confirmed except shaving ??? Abayye said: Scripture states: (Lev. 14) and went out ??? to ??? and behold ??? who ??? that is hanging ??? he has fulfilled his obligation this that do not ??? that is hanging ??? except ???

דף ח,ב משנה

There is no difference between sacred books and tefillin and mezuzot except that the books are written in all tongues but tefillin and mezuzot are not written except in Ashurit Assyrian??? script; a specific way of writing the alef-bet Rabban Shimon ben Gamliel says Even in the case of sacred books they did not permit that they be written in any foreign language rather the only foreign language that may be used is Greek.

דף ח,ב גמרא

this one ??? ??? both this and this ??? and books are written in all tongues ??? They challenged this from a baraita: the written Torah ??? translation and translation ??? the written Torah "and the writing of ??? he does not become tamei ??? until ??? in writing Ashurit Assyrian??? on ??? Rabba said: There is no difficulty.
