PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

He said to him: ??? it was One is valid and one is invalid if he was ??? and if he was ??? What then does it mean when it says is valid And what does it mean when it says is invalid Shall I say is valid is valid ??? is invalid is invalid ??? immediately ??? What then does it mean when it says ??? for him ??? except Is this not is valid is valid for him is invalid is invalid for him And what does it mean when it says ??? he turns ??? And we have learned if he was ??? No. is valid ??? is invalid ??? immediately ??? What then does it mean when it says ??? for him ??? It is because of this: of Rav Yosef for he said: Rav Yosef here, year" Rabbi No. ??? a person who ??? and others are necessary to them Come and hear: ??? She ??? For it was taught in a mishna: and all of them if Watch out for leading vav !! and they died? or ??? are permitted ??? Shall I say ??? we were a divorcee except Is this not ??? No. In reality lit: In the world ??? and two kinds of ??? and What is the difference For ??? For ??? also ??? It is because of this: for it teaches: pointed out a contradiction. son of ??? for it teaches: pointed out a contradiction. son of ??? it is permitted. ??? forbidden ??? Perhaps, ??? So, here, ??? Watch out for leading vav or his daughter Rav Assi said: ??? forbidden as it is said (Deut. 25) and it was the case that the first-born who ??? creates an exclusion ??? that is not she will give birth He challenged this "He" meaning... Watch out for leading vav And the halacha is according to the opinion ??? it is permitted. And even if ??? of it and even ??? Watch out for leading vav or his daughter ??? and but how do you reconcile that with this teaching where he teaches ??? It was taught by that were For he came ??? R' Yochanan said: One ??? and one ??? and one ??? he turns ??? all of them are permitted Watch out for leading vav For Rav learned: ??? in front of Rav ??? three women ??? a small one preganant and may nurse a small one lest ??? lest they shall be allowed to die of natural causes preganant lest shall you do ??? a sandal-fish may nurse lest ??? he built ??? And what is meant by this term a small one ??? the 11th year" and one day until Twelve year" and one day less than from here ??? because of this a woman who had sexual relations ??? These are the words of Rabbi Meir. but the sages say One -- this refers to and one -- this refers to a woman who had sexual relations ??? and from the heavens ??? It is because of this: as it is said (Ps. 116) ??? Hashem ??? lest ??? lest they shall be allowed to die of natural causes from this general principle it would follow That there are a small one ??? and not ??? If so, ??? and we have learnt in a Mishna: If it was you It is possible to say ??? and if ??? and if ??? or ??? I would say lest ??? and they shall be allowed to die of natural causes for he said: Rabbah son of ??? there are to it before ??? It is not ??? all the essence ??? She ??? did he die after time ??? She raw lit., living ??? Really? Hey, isn't it the case that It was taught by Rabbah son of Shmuel If it was you It is possible to say ??? and if ??? and if ??? or ??? immediately ??? But rather, in reality lit: in the world, lest ??? lest they shall be allowed to die of natural causes So rather, it is a problem ??? Rav said ??? children" Behold! are these ??? that they said children" ??? for what practical distinction that even to Rabbi Yehudah for he said: until ??? give thanks
