PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

Hey, isn't it the case that ??? to us ??? R' Eliezer son of Ya'akov ??? And even In this case, Rav said ??? Rav said That is not the halacha like Rabbi ??? it is a problem Rav Ashi said: ??? One who acts what they disagree about Rabbi Eliezer son of Ya'akov reasoned there are ??? One who acts And the rabbbis reason that yes. ??? One who acts What is the reason מאי טעמא ??? As it is written (Lev. 21) a widow and a divorcee ??? ??? No. ??? but instead a virgin etc. and then it is written and not ??? And the rabbbis ??? and Rabbi Eliezer son of Ya'akov he said ??? a menstruant like who ??? this one that teaches ??? you makes ??? and if you makes ??? like who like Rabbi Eliezer son of Ya'akov and Rabbi Eliezer son of Ya'akov ??? in the end it is a problem The rabbis taught: ??? Rabbi Meir And R' Yehudah say become tamei to it Rabbi Yosei and Rabbi Shimon say yes. become tamei to it ??? yes. become tamei to it or a woman who was injured by a stick yes. become tamei to it these are the words of R' Shimon that he was R' Shimon says ??? become tamei to it that do not ??? yes. become tamei to it ??? become tamei to it these are the words of every person What is the reason? of Rabbi Meir And R' Yehudah ??? thus (Lev. 21) ??? the virgin creates an exclusion ??? It is possible that I sent forth Even a woman who was injured by a stick Scripture states: (Lev. 21) who No. it was ??? who ??? by way of lit., through the hands of a man ??? -- this refers to that do not ??? by way of lit., through the hands of a man ??? this one why do I have he read For didn't Rabbi Meir say a virgin even a small portion of a virgin ??? It is necessary to teach this You might have thought that I would say that let a conclusion be drawn by comparing ??? a virgin a virgin from there Just as there ??? Even here, also ??? Come and hear from this and Rabbi Yosei, and Rabbi Shimon What is the reasoning ??? thus ??? the virgin creates an exclusion ??? or a woman who was injured by a stick who No. it was creates an exclusion ??? who was divorced ??? ??? who was divorced

for this statement that Rabbi Shimon said poses a contradiction: ??? The greatness become tamei to it that do not ??? The greatness yes. become tamei to it It is different there in that case of Rabbi the Merciful One ??? a woman who was injured by a stick also ??? One and not two for just as you see this one ??? of it It once happened this one No. ??? of it It once happened and Rabbi Yosei, ??? for there to be wheat ??? from this general principle it would follow ??? wood like Rabbi ??? he reasons for himself. ??? for him fill it was ??? Hey, isn't it the case that ??? one fill it was and one ??? for this statement that R' Shimon said poses a contradiction: a virgin a virgin ??? The reason is that are his also there i.e., in another mishna from here who derives an explanation from thus ??? from this general principle it would follow ??? a virgin ??? It was taught: R' Shimon ben Yochai says female convert ??? three years and one day ??? into the priesthood as it is said (Num. 31) and all ??? who No. ??? male, ??? to you Consider this case: ??? with them And the rabbbis ??? If so, the daughter of three years and one day also Watch out for leading vav And it is like Rav ??? For Rav Huna pointed out a contradiction. it is written (Num. 31) all a woman ??? a man ??? male, ??? this one It is not ??? from this general principle it would follow ??? between ??? between No. ??? and then it is written (Num. 31) and all ??? who No. ??? male, ??? to you this one ??? you shall says ??? is what the scripture says. Another teaching is like this: and all a woman ??? a man ??? is what the scripture says. You say ??? Or perhaps, except ??? actually and really For as it says: and all ??? who No. ??? male, you shall says ??? is what the scripture says. ??? Rav Huna said son of ??? he said R' Shimon the Chasid: ??? before ??? all ??? in his knowledge that it ??? all that do not ??? in his knowledge that is not ??? Rav Nachman said a sign of ??? In the matter You say (Judges 21) and they have found ??? four hundred ??? a virgin who No. ??? a man ??? male, ??? Rav said ??? by the mouth of ??? of wine the case is that of an elevation-offering, ??? a virgin yes. ??? before ??? Rav said ??? the son of of Rav he gave (Ex. 28) ??? to them it is written ??? and not ??? If so, ??? also Rav Ashi said to them it is written to them ??? and not ??? even ??? he said Rabbi Yaakov bar Idi Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi said: The halacha is like Rabbi Shimon son of ??? He said to him: Rabbi Zeira to Rabbi Ya'akov son of This in a clarifying explanation Have you heard or from a derivation Have you heard What then does it mean when it says ??? for he said: R' Yehoshua son of Levi a city One it was in the land of Israel that upon it read ??? Rabbi Rabbi ??? and found of it the daughter of female convert ??? three years and one day ??? Rabbi into the priesthood He said to him: in a clarifying explanation we heard for me and if from a derivation What then does it mean when it says Perhaps It is different there in that case Because ??? for it is the case that Rav and Rabbi Yochanan who both say ??? or a woman who was injured by a stick No. ??? and if exalted. ??? thus now This is satisfactory there i.e., in another mishna ??? to be ??? beneath it ??? to be the case is that of an elevation-offering, beneath it Here in this case, ??? to be ??? beneath it Rav ??? he would say over to it from a derivation and has a problem ??? for him thus This certain individual ??? female convert ??? three years and one day He said to him: ??? son of Isaac What then does it mean when it says This He said to him: for he said: Rabbi Yaakov bar Idi he said R' Yehoshua son of Levi Watch out for leading vav the halacha is like Rabbi Shimon son of ??? He said to him: ??? and if No. ??? to you R' Ya'akov son of This ??? It was taught: and thus he was Rabbi Shimon son of ??? says
