PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

which has no laws ??? upon it Rabbi says it is not necessary for him Behold! he says ??? one does not cross on his head until ??? the Torah he said after ??? she will not be shaving except ??? For it is written ??? one does not cross on his head to cross over upon it with two ??? Rav Chisdah said ??? in one ??? in two, ??? he does not act of demolishing except ??? his head ??? yes. ??? other than this No. ??? from where do we learn ??? all ??? except I would say similar to ??? Another teaching is like this: a Nazir ??? Any thing that was he does not act of demolishing except ??? his head ??? Rabbi Shimon son of Yehudah says It is because of this: Rabbi Shimon in the same way ??? indispensible in it thus in the same way two ??? in it It was taught there: three ??? a commandment a Nazir and one suffering from tzara'at ??? and all of them ??? that did not have ??? or ??? two ??? No. they make and not anything Mar said: three ??? a commandment This is obvious! ??? It is because of this: ??? the gate he and even ??? exalted. Come and learn from this. that is not The tanna teaches: and all of them ??? that did not have ??? This is satisfactory regarding a Nazir it is written ??? one does not cross on his head and regarding ??? it is written (Num. 8) ??? on all ??? except one suffering from tzara'at ??? From where do we derive this? And if you would say ??? Just as ??? which provides ??? shaving And there is no meaning to the word ??? except ??? Even I ??? ??? that he was required shaving And there is no meaning to the word ??? except ??? that it is possible ??? Just as ??? which provides ??? shall you say ??? that is not except ??? Just as ??? which provides its sacrifice required bread shall you say ??? that is not except ??? No. We come to compare ??? Just as ??? which provides ??? a Nazir He corrects Just as ??? which provides its sacrifice required bread ??? and he returned justice. No. ??? this ??? this and not ??? this ??? this one thing is equivalent ??? that are ??? shaving ??? Even I ??? ??? that he was required shaving ??? Raba said to him ??? to Rav Ashi ??? Just as ??? regarding them which provides

דף מ,ב גמרא

yes. its sacrifice ??? shall you say ??? He said to him: Raba son of ??? to Raba This a Tanna taught: from the beginning he said ??? it would be impossible which has no laws ??? upon it and then, separately, i.e., in addition to Moses pitching the tent, we had he said let a conclusion be drawn by comparing ??? ??? also No. he learns it He said to him: This certain individual who follow the reasoning ??? is a law established by the Rabbis this one who follow the reasoning ??? of Rabbi Eliezer For it was taught in a baraita and he is not liable until ??? R' Eliezer says: even ??? he is liable What is the reasoning is a law established by the Rabbis as it is taught: (Lev. 14) his beard Just as Scripture states: on account of as it is said (Lev. 21) ??? No. ??? It is possible even one suffering from tzara'at thus Scripture states: his beard From where do we derive this? ??? as it is taught: ??? No. ??? It is possible even ??? he is liable Scripture states: (Lev. 19) and not ??? It is possible ??? he is liable Scripture states: ??? No. ??? How so? Who is ??? in which there is in it ??? you shall says this ??? From where can you derive perhaps, In reality lit: In the world even ??? also a commandment ??? Hey, isn't it the case that ??? that even ??? No. ??? upon it They said: Watch out for leading vav !! And if it enters your mind to argue that For does he act? also ??? it is of acceptable worth. ??? he read of him and I I thought to say for just as regarding a Nazir ??? does he act? Watch out for leading vav But nevertheless, he is obligated Here in this case, of a commandment is it not all the more so?
