PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

דף סד,א גמרא

What is different about the beginning of the teaching, And what is different about the end of the teaching But the beginning of the teaching, in his hands at the end of the teaching, Is this not in his hands and not Consider this case: in his hand ??? that he came ??? This does not present any difficulty because there is no contradiction like Rabbi ??? son of Yehudah for he said: the daughters of Israel ??? Consider this case: in his hand ??? Watch out for leading vav !! or by a mamzer like Rabbi ??? for he said: yes. ??? Behold! in his hand ??? a widow ??? The greatness ??? as it is taught: R' ??? says from The entirety makes R' ??? a mamzer except ??? The greatness for behold! he said Torah (Lev. 21) No. ??? (Lev. 21) and not ??? makes And there is no meaning to the word makes ??? for he said: ??? on ??? son of Joseph that he was says all that do not to him ??? a mamzer This is satistfactory to R' ??? If it was with his reasoning ??? then the ruling is acceptable. except If it was To exclude ??? For R' ??? Behold! in his hand ??? One who acts Rav Ashi said ??? But the beginning of the teaching, It is because of this: ??? he ??? in his hand ??? And furthermore, Watch out for leading vav !! And even he said This that is not it's settled. ??? who ??? make kiddush. ??? the master of ??? except Rav Ashi said But the beginning of the teaching, the Merciful One ??? Like Rav Huna For Rav Huna said: Rav said from where do we learn to a father ??? Watch out for leading vav or his daughter from the Torah as it is said (Deut. 22) houses I have given ??? the Merciful One to a father ??? No. ???

דף סד,א משנה

who who said in the hour of ??? there are for me children" faithfully there are for me ??? he is not believed

דף סד,א גמרא

Perhaps, faithfully ??? And there is no meaning to the word faithfully ??? Let him say Our mishna that is not ??? he gave as it is taught: in the hour of ??? he said he has children" in the hour of death he said he (children") does not have in the hour of ??? he said he (??? ) does not have in the hour of death he said he has ??? faithfully ??? And there is no meaning to the word faithfully ??? these are the words of Rabbi R' Natan says: Even faithfully ??? Rabba said: It is different there in that case immediately ??? death ??? he returns of him. I would say ??? he comes to say i.e., what he really means is: Abaye said to him: Is this not all ??? he now for just as there i.e., in another mishna that he came ??? for him ??? is what you say? Do you really mean that? ??? he comes to say i.e., what he really means is: ??? that is not ??? for him ??? not all the more so? except Abayye said: ??? that is not ??? to us ??? and not ??? to us ??? immediately that is not ??? to us ??? and not ??? he said there are for me children" faithfully there are for me ??? he does not faithfully Is this not all ??? to it ??? the World: ???

דף סד,ב גמרא

??? to us ??? and not ??? to us ??? What do I have to learn from ??? What then does it mean when it says he comes to say i.e., what he really means is: ??? he said ??? to you ??? Rabbi reasoned What do I have to learn from ??? For witnesses he is equivalent. and they came witnesses ??? and Rabbi Natan reasoned What do I have to learn from ??? For ??? he is equivalent. No. will come ???

דף סד,ב משנה

??? Watch out for leading vav or his daughter ??? yes. ??? are in the general category who in which there is to him two ??? the daughters of ??? women and he said ??? houses an adult female Really? know if that is large ??? or that is large ??? or a small one ??? that it that is large from ??? all of them are forbidden except for a minor female ??? These are the words of R' Meir Rabbi Yosei says: all of them are permitted except for an adult female ??? houses a minor female Really? know if a small one ??? or a small one ??? or that is large ??? that it a small one from ??? all of them are forbidden except for an adult female ??? these are the words of Rabbi Meir Rabbi Yosei says: all of them are permitted except for a minor female ???

דף סד,ב גמרא

this one ??? are in the general category ??? that do not ??? are they, ??? Here in this case, with what are we dealing? ??? in that place except that is large and a small one Hey, isn't it the case that ??? And it was necessary to have both statements For if it was we had heard the first ??? he comes to say i.e., what he really means is: R' Meir ??? That there are ??? that is large a seminal emission to it but: In this case, I would say he would acknowledge the correct position of for him to R' ??? a small one ??? a seminal emission to it And if it was said In this case, In this case, he comes to say i.e., what he really means is: R' Yosi but: ??? I would say he would acknowledge the correct position of for him According to Rabbi Meir, Watch out for leading vav And it was necessary to have both statements This comes to imply of Rabbi Meir reasoned ??? and R' Yosi reasoned No. ??? them For it was taught in a baraita ??? until the Paschal offering is forbidden until he shall have arrived until that it should be Passover is forbidden until they go out until the face of Passover Rabbi Meir says: is forbidden until he shall have arrived Rabbi Yosei says: until they go out he said Rabbi ??? son of ???
