PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

or female convert took possession Rabbah said ??? and thus he said ??? They said: a divorcee also ??? for the value ??? Rav Pappa said: the Torah it has taken possession he is equivalent. ??? even came upon it ??? What is the reason? Scripture states: (Ex. 21) as it was ??? upon it the master of the his wife ??? For example, ??? coins ??? For example, ??? for he said: Rabbah ??? he has ??? coins he (??? ) does not have he said ??? coins he has ??? he (They said:) does not have What case is he dealing with? to the children of ??? who follow the reasoning ??? is a law established by the Rabbis For ??? Here in this case, ??? Reish Lakish said ox ??? ??? that did not have ??? is exempt ??? as it is said (Ex. 21) silver thirty ??? He shall give" ??? and the ox ??? The whole time ??? by stoning, ??? thirty ??? yes. the ox by stoning, yes. ??? thirty ??? Rabbah said ox ??? son of ??? that did not have ??? is exempt ??? as it is said (Ex. 21) the ox ??? also ??? if ??? upon it The whole time ??? by stoning, ??? yes. the ox by stoning, yes. ??? Abaye ??? so-and-so or ??? of so-and-so behold! This is הרי זה must make restitution ??? himself Is this not ??? No. ??? If it was ??? I would say at the end of the teaching, ??? his male slave of so-and-so he does not must make restitution by the mouth of himself and if ??? why is it that did not say to him ??? to you But the beginning of the teaching, ??? and at the end of the teaching, ??? ??? son of ??? himself and How so? For if it was they came ??? of him. ??? and not ??? If it was perfect it was. If it was festival it was. and he said Master ??? he ??? by the mouth of himself in a case ??? witnesses must make restitution ??? regarding a slave that is not must make restitution ??? himself and How so? For if it was they came witnesses ??? of him. ??? and not ??? If it was perfect it was. If it was festival it was. and he said Master festival he No. ??? himself in a case ??? witnesses No. must make restitution ??? He challenged this "He" meaning... Rav Shmuel son of Rav Isaac all ??? he is liable ??? between ??? between ??? who that it is possible except Is this not ??? that it is possible that they said he ??? to it This is only in the case ??? to it that it is possible that they said He said to him: Rabbah Watch out for leading vav And this is what the tanna means to teach: all ??? by the mouth of witnesses ??? he is liable ??? and all ??? that did not have ??? witnesses ??? he is liable ??? that did not have ??? by the mouth of witnesses ??? Raba said to him If so, ??? that did not have ??? witnesses ??? for him to Raba that is not must make restitution Shall I say ??? he was ??? to him and a slave immediately adjacent lit: leaning to him ??? with it he is liable a slave ??? to him ??? immediately adjacent lit: leaning to him ??? with it is exempt Watch out for leading vav !! For didn't ??? say For example, ??? of a slave ??? for him ??? of him So rather, ??? as it is taught: ??? in fire ??? to eat between a thing ??? to it between a thing that do not ??? to it Just as that do not thus ??? And even ??? that did not have ??? Just as that do not thus ??? No. The tanna teaches: Perhaps a Tanna taught: ??? except Raba ??? -- why must that case be taught as well? for him ??? that did not have ??? who must make restitution ??? or No. who say regarding ox he ??? must make restitution ??? that did not have ??? must make restitution ??? but: ??? No. must make restitution ??? that did not have ??? also No. must make restitution ??? or, perhaps, immediately ??? that did not have ??? even though ??? must make restitution ??? regarding ??? also even though ??? No. must make restitution ??? that did not have ??? Regardless, must make restitution ??? and not ??? When Rav Dimi came that R' Yochanan said ??? Just as Scripture states: (Ex. 21) if ??? that did not have ??? He said to him Abaye Except I can object with text from here: a slave also Just as Scripture states: (Ex. 21) if a slave ??? a slave that did not have ??? And if you say Here, too, For didn't ??? say ox ??? ??? that did not have ??? is exempt ??? He said to him a person ??? For he came ??? that R' Yochanan said a slave Just as Therefore, scripture states: if a slave ??? a slave that did not have ??? also Let him say ??? if a slave No. he expounds. ??? if ??? also No. he expounds. They said: No. a slave if a slave No. he expounds. ??? if ??? he expounds. and what is the difference here, a slave if a slave No. it is written in a place restitution ??? if ??? it is written in a place ??? and thus ??? or ??? The Rabbis taught (Ex. 21) or son of ??? or the daughter of ??? on who were minors ??? Is it not the case that It would be a logical inference Because a person is required ??? he is liable ox ??? Just as ??? a person ??? there is no difference between children ??? Even ??? ox ??? No. ??? in it between children ??? And furthermore, ??? he for just as a person ??? that did not have One who acts in it children ??? he is liable in it on who were minors ???
