PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

דף י,א גמרא

Our mishna with whom does it agree? It is the rabbis' position except If you say, ??? and Responded It is a disagreement but: ??? the words of all are took possession to him So, with whom does it agree? No. rabbis and not R' Eliezer He said to him: ??? for he said: ??? Here, too, ??? it is taught at the end if once he had given it to him he said I my ruling that a person is innocent? of it ??? did not say anything ??? why do I have This is obvious! even though that is not he said ??? he comes to say i.e., what he really means is: except Is this not Thus can we come and learn from this. But the beginning of the teaching, for he said: ??? And the other one a Tanna taught: at the end of the teaching, ??? But the beginning of the teaching, at the end of the teaching, for he said: ??? But the beginning of the teaching, that is not he said ??? Rav ??? and Rav Chisda who both say ??? a lost object to his fellow No. he bought his fellow What is the reason? you shall ??? obligation in a place ??? to others ??? obligation in a place ??? to others No. he bought ??? Raba for Rav, ??? Items that were found ??? for himself Regarding what matters are we speaking? at a time i.e., in a case who said to him the master of the house ??? with me" the day ??? with me" the day but: He said to him: One who acts with me" work the day ??? of the master of the house he He said to him that I ??? the master of the house he For didn't Rav say ??? It is possible ??? in it Even if ??? the day He said to him: all how much that is not he returns of him. ??? the master of the house he For he returns of him. The reason is other than this it is written: (Lev. 25) For for me the Children of Israel slaves my slave are these and not slaves ??? he said R' Chiyya bar Abba R' Yochanan said: ??? a lost object to his fellow he bought his fellow and if you say ??? for he said: give it to me and did not say took possession for me

דף י,א משנה

he saw a lost object and fell upon it and someone else came and forcibly took possession of it this the one who forcibly took possession of it successfully took possession at it

דף י,א גמרא

Raysh Lakish said It is because of this: Abba a priest ??? four cubits of a person ??? to him in any place ??? established rabbis that is not will come ??? Abayye said: ??? R' Chiyya son of Joseph ??? Rabba said: ??? R' Ya'akov son of This ??? Abayye said: ??? R' Chiyya son of Joseph ??? he took a small portion of ??? In a case where he sprinkled the blood --- on ??? he (of it) does not have anything stillborn lit., fallen to him upon it ??? upon it ??? that specific ??? and thus ??? And if you say four cubits of a person ??? to him in any place ??? for him four cubits that are his Here in this case, with what are we dealing? that is not he said ??? and if ??? rabbis For did not say What then does it mean when it says you shall immediately ??? it's settled. for him ??? in four, cubits No. it's settled. for him ???

דף י,ב גמרא

Rav Papa said, For established for him rabbis four cubits in reality in the field ??? the house No. established for him rabbis and even though ??? for him the Merciful One ??? For took possession for him the Merciful One ??? of it ??? No. took possession for him the Merciful One Rabba said: ??? R' Ya'akov son of This ??? he saw a lost object and it fell to him upon it and someone else came and forcibly took possession of it this the one who forcibly took possession of it took possession of it And if you say four cubits of a person ??? to him in any place ??? for him four cubits that are his Here in this case, with what are we dealing? that is not he said ??? and if ??? rabbis For did not say What then does it mean when it says you shall immediately ??? upon it ??? it's settled. for him ??? in four, cubits No. it's settled. for him ??? Watch out for leading vav And Rav Sheishet said For established rabbis ??? that is not ??? many in a public domain that he came ??? many No. established rabbis Hey, isn't it the case that in any place he comes to say i.e., what he really means is: in all places to include ??? is a voluntary act the public and Raysh Lakish said It is because of this: Abba a priest ??? a small one It does not have a courtyward and It does not have four cubits and R' Yochanan It is because of this: R' ??? he said there are to it a courtyward and there are to it four cubits about what do they disagree? one master reasons that a courtyward It is because of this: ??? so that thus it will be for there is to it a hand a courtyward also ??? to it and one master reasons that a courtyward It is because of this: ??? and so that thus it will be ??? to it a courtyward also ??? to it who that it is possible The one who said a courtyward It is because of this: ??? For it was taught: (Ex. 22) in his hand yes. for me except ??? from where do we learn Scripture states: (Ex. 22) ??? from all a place and if You might have thought a courtyward It is because of this: ??? If so, ??? for a matter of transgression ??? to us yes. ??? for a matter of transgression Ravina said in a case say ??? for a matter of transgression in a case ??? son of ??? he but: ??? son of ??? he ??? Except I can object with text from here: One who says ??? and a slave ??? for me ??? My son, ??? Here, too, ??? the table is what you say? Do you really mean that? a woman and a slave My son, ??? and now from this who does not have ??? For it was taught in a baraita ??? the his wife ??? they are obligated to make whole Rav ??? he said in a case say yes. ??? for a matter of transgression in a case So if he wished, does he act? and if he is required No. does he act? but: a courtyward ??? of it ??? What then does it mean when it says ??? There is this difference between them: a priest for he said: for him to Israel "Go!" ??? for me a woman a divorcee So, too, a man for he said: to it ??? for me a child ??? for he said: all in a case So if he wished, does he act? If it was he is required No. does he act? No. ??? So, here, If it was he is required does he act? If it was he is required No. does he act? No. ??? the table ??? that you said all in a case ??? Is this not son of ??? Behold! also immediately ??? My son, ??? the table and who that it is possible ??? a courtyward Is this not It is because of this: ??? For it was taught: ??? yes. for me except ??? from where do we learn Scripture states: and gave from all a place in the matter of writ the whole world does not disagree ??? It is because of this: ??? Because specifically, where they disagree is this: in the matter of a lost object ???
