PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

דף ק,א גמרא

why is it that they shall divide ??? Watch out for leading vav !! And the other one the taking out from his fellow upon it ??? said Rabbi Chiyya son of Avin: Shmuel said ??? a maidservant also ??? that came first ??? Watch out for leading vav !! And the other one ??? So, with whom does it agree? ??? She for he said: money or property ??? they divide without ??? for he said: ??? lest ??? Watch out for leading vav And who said it? Rabbah said son of Rav Huna yes. he said ??? even ??? Rava said: In reality lit: In the world For he said ??? lest lest but: ??? did not say It was taught by this one says lest before it was even the case that ??? and this one says lest ??? We have learnt in a Mishna: this one says Really? know and this one says Really? know they shall divide This is satisfactory to Raba ??? lest lest But the beginning of the teaching, also lest lest except ??? son of Rav Huna for he said: yes. he said ??? even ??? now ??? he said they shall divide lest lest ??? If it was It is because of this: this one No. ??? a Tanna taught: at the end of the teaching, ??? But the beginning of the teaching, that did not have shall you say But the beginning of the teaching, lest lest but: ??? No. a Tanna taught: at the end of the teaching, lest lest from this general principle it would follow that at the beginning of the teaching ??? But nevertheless, they shall divide We have learnt in a Mishna: this one says The greatness and this one says a child shall vow ??? This is satisfactory to Raba for he said: For he said ??? lest lest but: ??? did not say and because of this shall vow except ??? son of Rav Huna for he said: yes. he said ??? even ??? why is it that shall vow sell they shall divide should bring himself give thanks ??? in a case That there are ??? a law established by the Torah ??? to say ??? they were to him two slaves one The greatness and one a child ??? why is it that shall vow Just as ??? No. ??? to him for just as who gave thanksgiving to him No. ??? And furthermore, ??? he And furthermore, yes. ??? on slaves Rav said ??? he is equivalent. he is equivalent. a slave The greatness he is equivalent. a slave a child he is equivalent. field that is large he is equivalent. field a small one And Shmuel said ??? a slave The greatness ??? a slave a child ??? field that is large ??? field a small one

דף ק,ב גמרא

??? Just as ??? No. ??? to him for just as who gave thanksgiving to him No. ??? Like that which was said by Rav ??? Here in this case, also, ??? has a problem to Rabbi ??? something ??? The tanna teaches: a slave The tanna teaches: except Thus said Rabbi ??? For example, ??? a slave ??? Just as ??? No. ??? to him for just as who gave thanksgiving to him No. ??? Thus said Rabbi ??? has a problem for Rav, ??? he came ??? that do not to them liens on ??? in which they have liens on ??? about them except Rav Sheshet said So, with whom does it agree? ??? She for he said: ??? he is equivalent. ??? Just as ??? No. ??? to him for just as who gave thanksgiving to him No. ??? derive it ??? For it was taught in a baraita ??? is exempt Rabban Gamliel he is obligated ??? he Rabba said: ??? of it ??? Hey, isn't it the case that ??? for him For it was taught in a baraita ??? livestock ??? slaves ??? must make restitution ??? Rabbi Meir says: ??? says to him Behold! ??? before you This does not present any difficulty because there is no contradiction ??? Rabbah son of Avuah It was taught by Rabbi Meir says: must make restitution ??? but the sages say says to him ??? Behold! ??? before you except From where can you derive ??? to a slave Just as a slave ??? Even ??? Perhaps ??? he ??? but: ??? No. Don't let it enter your mind! as it is taught: ??? a cow ??? and she gave birth to and thus ??? Watch out for leading vav or his female slave and she gave birth to this one says ??? and this ??? took possession this one says Really? know and this one says Really? know they shall divide this one says ??? and this one says ??? shall vow ??? she gave birth to on account of for all of ??? and not ??? These are the words of Rabbi Meir. but the sages say yes. ??? Not on ??? and not on ??? Is this not from this general principle it would follow of Rabbi Meir reasoned ??? From where can you derive Perhaps in the same way ??? for him so that thus it will be ??? to us ??? to us also ??? Know ye that the following proof is conclusively true: For it was taught in a baraita Rabbi Meir says: there are items that are ??? and are not ??? And there is no meaning to the word the sages "We thank..." to him How so? ??? vines ??? to you ??? says are not except ??? he is obligated but the sages say all ??? to the earth Behold! he ??? and R' Yosi said son of ??? grapes ??? There is this difference between them: ??? reasoned ??? and one master reasons that Is this not ??? But rather, in reality lit: in the world, ??? to you ??? It is necessary to teach this For it might have entered your mind that I would say: ??? a slave ??? he is equivalent. ??? field ??? he is equivalent. ??? this one says Really? know and this one says Really? know ??? So, with whom does it agree? ??? She for he said: money or property ??? they divide I would say at the end of the teaching, this one says ??? and this one says ??? shall vow ??? she gave birth to ??? son of Rav Huna for he said: yes. he said ??? even ??? why is it that shall vow sell they shall divide ??? give thanks ??? in a case That there are ??? a law established by the Torah ???

דף ק,ב משנה

??? "and they shall make less than ??? Behold! these of the master of ??? they make ??? this one says olives ??? and this one says ??? they shall divide ??? river ??? field his fellow this one says olives ??? and this one says ??? they shall divide

דף ק,ב גמרא

How so? How should we understand this? If it was for he said: for him ??? even less than ??? also ??? If it was for he said: for him all begins ??? ??? even ??? also ??? it is not necessary to teach this for he said: for him ??? less than ??? people are not particular ??? Thus said Rabbi Shimon ben Pazi: ??? where they said
