PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

דף ב,א משנה

Consider the following case: two are grasping i.e., have taken hold of a garment this one of them says I found it and this one of them says I found it this one of them says All of it is mine and this one of them says All of it is mine this one of them shall vow that there is not in it, of his, less than half and this one of them shall vow that there is not in it, of his, less than half and they shall divide it

A variation on that case this one of them says all of it is mine and this one of them says half of it is mine The one who says all of it is mine he shall vow that there is not in it, of his, less than three portions out of four and the one who says half of it is mine he shall vow that there is not in it, of his, less than one-fourth this one of them takes three portions and this one of them takes one fourth

there were two riding on regarding livestock or, there was one riding and one leading ??? this says all of it is mine and this says all of it is mine this shall vow that there is not in it, of his, less than half and this shall vow that there is not in it, of his, less than half and they shall divide at a time in a case when they acknowledge or in which they have witnesses they divide without a vow

דף ב,א גמרא

why do I have ??? this one says I found it and this one says I found it this one says all of it is mine and this one says all of it is mine Let the Tanna teach: one one The tanna teaches: this one says I found it and all of it is mine and this one says I found it and all of it is mine ??? I found it and I ??? mine If it was a Tanna taught: I found it then I might incorrectly say: What then does it mean when it says ??? even though that is not ??? in reality ??? a Tanna taught: all of it is mine ??? No. ??? and who seeks is what you say? Do you really mean that? What then does it mean when it says ??? for this statement that Rabinai said poses a contradiction: ??? (Deut. 22) ??? yes. ??? who has arrived ??? a Tanna taught: ??? of the world ??? for him he said I ??? and even though that is not ??? in reality ??? It was taught by all of it is mine ??? in reality No. ??? to it ??? all of it is mine and it does not require I found it If it was It was taught by all of it is mine then I might incorrectly say: in reality where he teaches ??? in reality ??? a Tanna taught: I found it and then, separately, i.e., in addition to Moses pitching the tent, we had a Tanna taught: all of it is mine ??? we had heard ??? No. ??? and who seeks is what you say? Do you really mean that? one The tanna teaches: Hey, isn't it the case that both this and this The tanna teaches: this one says I found it and this one says I found it this one says all of it is mine and etc. Rav Pappa said: (and there are those who say Rav ??? son of ??? And there are those who say it was so that But the beginning of the teaching, ??? and at the end of the teaching, ??? And it was necessary to have both statements

דף ב,ב גמרא

For if it was a Tanna taught: a lost object then I might incorrectly say: a lost object he ??? rabbis ??? upon it It is because of this: ??? and he said ??? Is this not something lacking of it ??? but: a purchase ??? to say thus I would say No. and if a Tanna taught: a purchase ??? he ??? rabbis ??? upon it It is because of this: ??? and he said ??? he is equivalent. ??? he will give and I he is equivalent. ??? now ??? To me ??? I ??? but: a lost object ??? to say thus I would say it is not necessary to teach this a purchase ??? from those ??? it is not necessary to teach this ??? and not ??? who he ??? and who he the master of ??? Let us say, ??? that is not ??? For if it was son of ??? Watch out for leading vav !! For didn't How so? say both these and these: have come to suffer lit, to the hands of ??? without worth even you say son of ??? there i.e., in another mishna certainly that it is possible ??? without worth Here in this case, that it is possible to say ??? without worth ??? together ??? Let us say, ??? that is not ??? For if it was ??? Watch out for leading vav !! For didn't money or property say ??? they divide without ??? and Rather, what can we conclude? rabbis this one They said: ??? This What then does it mean when it says ??? rabbis there i.e., in another mishna that is not ??? both of them. And they said rabbis the taking out from his fellow upon it ??? Here in this case, ??? to it ??? except If you say, ??? now for just as there i.e., in another mishna that is not ??? both of them. they divide without ??? Here in this case, ??? to it not all the more so? Even if you say ??? For he said ??? lest lest but: ??? did not say ??? son of Rav Huna for he said: he said ??? even ??? What is there to say? Even if you say ??? For he said ??? in a case That there are ??? but: in a case ??? No. Is this not ??? he for just as there i.e., in another mishna That there are ??? for Master and there are ??? for Master
