PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

Rav Acha the son of of Rav ??? he said according to Torah law, one also is valid as it is said (Lev. 19) ??? except It is because of this: Those who sat in corners because ??? who No. are they, Those who sat in corners it would be impossible ??? in them? one ??? that is not ??? on top of lit. on the head of he a Tanna taught: also ??? damage ??? that is not ??? on top of lit. on the head of he ??? that he came he is required ??? damage a Tanna taught: also ??? three From where do we derive this? For the Rabbis taught (Ex. 22) ??? the master of the house to God Behold! here, one (Ex. 22) until God ??? a thing both Behold! here, two (Ex. 22) who ??? God Behold! here, three these are the words of Rabbi ??? R' ??? says ??? it is said And there is no meaning to the word ??? except until God ??? a thing both Behold! here, one who ??? God Behold! here, two And there is no meaning to the word a court ??? they add about them any more one Behold! here, three Let him say ??? what they disagree about ??? reasoned ??? and one master reasons that yes. ??? No. everyone agrees lit: according to the whole world yes. ??? He could say to you R' ??? If so, let scripture say ??? the master of the house to ??? What then does it mean when it says to God Learn from this ??? And Rabbi ??? of the world ??? just like what people normally say, one is what he has judgement ??? to join with the body of ??? and R' ??? he does not have a court בית דין ??? For it was taught: Rabbi Eliezer his son of Rabbi Yosei the Gallilean says Just as Therefore, scripture states: (Ex. 23) ??? "After many ??? the Torah he said One who acts to you a court בית דין ??? derive it like Rabbi Yehudah for he said: ??? For it was taught in a baraita ??? that is large it was of ??? and one R' Yehuda says: ??? I will say ??? for him to Rabbi Yehudah ??? that is large ??? in the remainder of among judgement who ??? for him And if you say there is no difference For it was taught in a mishna: ??? elders ??? wagon in a case where there are three these are the words of R' Shimon R' Yehuda says: in five say What is the reason? of Rabbi Yehudah (Lev. 4) and They are adjacent lit: they lean two the elders of two And there is no meaning to the word a court ??? they add about them any more one Behold! here, Hashem of Rabbi ??? is preferable, ??? Yehudah For this R' Yehudah ??? that is large he the one who does not have this one in the remainder of among judgement it has and R' ??? in the remainder of among judgement also he does not have So rather, This ??? What then does it mean when it says does he act? for him ??? to it ??? souls but: ??? No. but how do you reconcile that with this teaching For it was taught in a baraita two say ??? and one says he is liable ??? two say he is liable and one says ??? he is liable Let him say that is not like Rabbi ??? even you say Rabbi ??? to it ??? souls for just as ??? souls ??? the Merciful One in the Torah says ??? according to ??? No. all ??? The rabbis taught: ??? in a case where there are three Rabbi says in five so that ??? justice. in a case where there are three because ??? who No. ??? judgement it is dealing with a case where there are two thus he comes to say i.e., what he really means is: because of ??? judgement in a case where there are three Perhaps, his reasoning is three For are written ??? judgement are written ??? of it Rabbi Abahu Except I can object with text from here: shall be ??? that is large it requires hundred and forty and one so that ??? justice. ??? and one and shall be ??? a small one it requires forty and five so that ??? justice. in a case where there are three and twenty except (Num. 11) ??? for me ??? a man the Merciful One in the Torah says ??? (Num. 35) ??? also ??? Here, too, (Ex. 22) ??? the master of the house to God ??? three except we were The reason is of Rabbi (Ex. 22) who ??? God two it is said God to the bottom and it is said God is more Just as to the bottom two Even is more two And there is no meaning to the word a court ??? they add upon them any more one Behold! here, five
