PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

since we say: from the beginning ??? they make a response a court בית דין of ??? they bring forgiveness to them What then does it mean when it says is what you say? Do you really mean that? this one No. ??? a response No. ??? the validity ??? Rabbi Isaac says ??? are in the general category they were and for what reason was it taken out he is spiritually cut off ??? and not ??? And the rabbbis he is spiritually cut off ??? why do I have ??? Yochanan for he said: Rabbi Yochanan ??? all of them ??? one he is liable on all One and one And Rabbi Isaac ??? for him ??? for him (Lev. 18) ??? a woman ??? on all a woman and the woman And the rabbbis also Watch out for leading vav Is it not enough for him ??? yes. Here, too, So rather, he is spiritually cut off ??? why do I have ??? on ??? and on ??? his father and on ??? of its mother This is obvious! Behold! ??? Behold! desolations ??? except ??? on ??? that it ??? his father that it ??? of its mother And how It concerns itself ??? son of ??? and R' Isaac this one ??? for him ??? for him From a "kal vachomer", as it is taught: Rabbi Akiva said: ??? Rabban Gamliel and Rabbi Yehoshua ??? of ??? that they went ??? livestock ??? his son of Rabban Gamliel that comes on ??? that it ??? his father that it ??? of its mother What then? ??? he is liable on all of them except One or he is liable on all One and one They said to him: -- this refers to No. ??? but: ??? that comes on ??? women ??? one ??? on all One and one and can be seen items From a "kal vachomer", for just as a menstruant that it in that place one he is liable on all One and one here, ??? desolations is it not all the more so? And the other one is a kal vachomer ??? he Just as ??? which provides ??? also This certainly is a kal vachomer ??? he except ??? for him (Lev. 20) ??? And the other one ??? why do I have ??? on ??? the daughter of his father the daughter of of its mother to say that do not ??? from justice. And the other one If you wish, I would say ??? And if you wish, I would say ??? for him

??? that at the beginning of the teaching And the other one This certain individual should bring himself ??? he is spiritually cut off ??? And the other one reasoned ??? Thus said Rabbi ??? For Rabbi Eliezer said: he said Rabbi ??? in all places where you finds two ??? and he is spiritually cut off one ??? there are. ??? And if you like, I could say Do you not derive from this, ??? for him (Lev. 20) ??? who ??? a woman ??? And the other one This certain individual should bring himself ??? Yochanan for he said: R' Yochanan It is because of this: R' Shimon ben Yochai from where do we learn that do not the his wife that is tamei until they go out ??? a way ??? as it is said a man who ??? a woman ??? ??? etc. This teaches that do not the his wife that is tamei until they go out ??? a way ??? and tamei who ate ??? This is satisfactory that comes ??? tamei it is written ??? and then it is written ??? As it is written (Num. 19) a tabernacle Hashem tamei ??? (Num. 5) and not ??? ??? except tamei who ate that which was sanctified for Temple use This is satisfactory ??? it is written (Lev. 7) ??? who It may be eaten meat An altar of ??? who to Hashem ??? upon it ??? except ??? from where do we learn ??? says (Lev. 12) in all and that which was sanctified for Temple use No. ??? Rabbi Yochanan says It was taught by ??? We come to compare ??? It is written here ??? upon it ??? And it is written there (Num. 19) tamei it shall be any more ??? in it Just as there ??? Even here, ??? This is satisfactory ??? did not say like Rabbi Yochanan ??? the value of No. ??? except R' Yochanan What is the reason? did not say ??? He could say to you This certain individual ??? for him ??? for him (Lev. 22) From the man a man ??? This is only in the case ??? or One suffering from gonorrhea If it was ??? a thing that he was the value of ??? of ??? you shall says -- this refers to terumah And the other one This certain individual as regard to eating, Hey, isn't it the case that ??? This in all and that which was sanctified for Temple use No. ??? he who has arrived This certain individual should bring himself ??? tamei ??? says ??? Rabbi Yochanan says he does not ??? says ??? in all and that which was sanctified for Temple use No. ??? Rabbi Yochanan says yes. ??? This certain individual ??? he who has arrived tamei ??? the Merciful One ??? and that which was sanctified for Temple use ??? he who has arrived This certain individual should bring himself ??? who ate meat and that which was sanctified for Temple use before the sprinkling of blood: ??? tamei who ate meat and that which was sanctified for Temple use before the sprinkling of blood: ??? says ??? Rabbi Yochanan says he does not ??? says ??? in all and that which was sanctified for Temple use No. ??? there is no difference Before the act of sprinkling, and there is no difference After the act of sprinkling, Rabbi Yochanan says he does not ??? Rabbi Yochanan with his reasoning For scripture said: ??? And so it is written ??? After the act of sprinkling, it is written: this particular ??? and that which was sanctified for Temple use ??? This teaching is consistent with the position he expounds. ??? in all and that which was sanctified for Temple use No. ??? You say ??? Or perhaps, except ??? Scripture states: in all and that which was sanctified for Temple use No. ??? and do not ??? etc. There is an analogy between and that which was sanctified for Temple use ??? Just as make kiddush. a thing in which there is in it ??? breath Even any thing in which there is in it ??? breath and if ??? who that it is possible ??? breath except in cases regarding eating Rabbah bar bar Channah said Rabbi Yochanan said: all No. shall you do ??? One who acts ??? upon it
