PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

Is it written at base The elevation-offering at base An altar of The elevation-offering it is written If it was it was. it is written at base The elevation-offering then I might incorrectly say: ??? at base now As it is written at base An altar of The elevation-offering ??? Thus said Rabbi Yishmael a roof the base why do I have he read is a kal vachomer he for just as the remnants i.e., leftovers of A sin-offering that is not ??? require a roof the base the beginning of an elevation-offering ??? is it not logical that requires a roof the base he said Rabbi Akiva for just as the remnants i.e., leftovers of A sin-offering that do not ??? And there is no meaning to the word have come ??? require a roof the base the beginning of an elevation-offering ??? and she entered ??? is it not logical that requires a roof the base If so, Just as Scripture states: at base An altar of The elevation-offering give the base ??? of an elevation-offering What then does it mean when it says ??? Rav Adda bar Ahava said ??? There is this difference between them: one master reasons that ??? and one master reasons that No. ??? Rav Papa said, everyone agrees lit: according to the whole world ??? yes. ??? and here in this other case, ??? A sin-offering of a bird: is essential. ??? one master reasons that is essential. and one master reasons that No. is essential. This teaching is consistent with the position of Rav ??? (Lev. 4) and all ??? Just as Scripture states: ??? on A bull Yom Kippur ??? the giving of ??? these are the words of Rabbi he said Rabbi Yishmael ??? for just as if who that do not enter ??? within guilt-obligation required the base who ??? within guilt-obligation is it not logical ??? the base he said Rabbi Akiva for just as who that do not ??? enter before and inwards between ??? between ??? required the base who ??? guilt-obligation before and inwards is it not logical ??? the base It is possible ??? but when it is not "and the remainder..."? No. shall be drained it is a case of two different Tanaaim and who follow the reasoning ??? For R' Yishmael he said pointed out a contradiction. son of Chama This a Tanna taught: reasoned ??? as it is taught: (Lev. 6) ??? it it ??? of its blood is more and not it ??? of its blood to the bottom is what you say? Do you really mean that? And so ??? from this general principle it would follow as it is said (Deut. 12) ??? on An altar of etc. we have learned ??? four ??? as a gift One ??? It is possible Even ??? is more ??? to the bottom ??? It would be a logical inference ??? is more ??? Just as ??? No. ??? Even ??? if he gave to the bottom No. ??? No. if is what you say? Do you really mean that? with its monetary value? ??? that do not An altar of ??? shall you say ??? for behold! corners ??? those particular if ??? to the bottom are proper Scripture states: it it ??? is more and not ??? of its blood to the bottom What then does it mean when it says that do not An altar of ??? Is this not these ??? Raba said to him If so, ??? Just as ??? guilt-obligation outside ??? at the beginning outside No. ??? is more that do not ??? guilt-obligation to the bottom ??? at the beginning to the bottom is it not logical that did not have ??? except yes. An altar of ??? only. except fore-curtain The rabbis taught: (Lev. 16) and a bride. atones if ??? a bride and if No. ??? No. a bride these are the words of R' ??? He said to him: Rabbi Yehudah On account of what It is not said if a bride ??? if No. a bride No. ??? One from all ??? he did not do anything at all. What then does it mean when it says ??? Rabbi Yochanan and Rabbi Yehoshua son of Levi One says ??? There is this difference between them: and one says ??? There is this difference between them: ??? of R' Yehoshua son of Levi he for he said: ??? for thus said Rabbi Joshua son of Levi according to the words of One who says ??? sends A bull one ??? at the beginning inside because R' Yochanan he does not have this one reason out the logic. For didn't R' Yochanan say a Tanna taught: R' ??? in accordance with the words of One who says ??? except in accordance with the words of One who says Is this not ??? These are the sin-offerings of the community: male goats of the beginnings of months and of appointed times i.e., festivals What are their rules?
