PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

Disclaimers

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

What is our source for this claim who seeks north for it teaches: Rabbah son of Rav ??? in front of Raba (Lev. 23) ??? a male goat ??? one ??? Just as A sin-offering in the north Even ??? community in the north He said to him: Raba And so A sin-offering ??? the highest a thing ??? he returns This teaches ??? except ??? Rav ??? the son of of Rav ??? (Num. 10) on ??? and on ??? Just as an elevation-offering The holiest of holy offerings Even peace-offerings of community The holiest of holy offerings Just as an elevation-offering in the north Even peace-offerings of community in the north except ??? that came first for what he came For A sin-offering Just as A sin-offering It is not ??? except by the males of the priesthood Even peace-offerings of community by the males of the priesthood Abaye said to him: If so, regarding a ram a Nazir As it is written (Num. 6) and he sacrificed its sacrifice to Hashem ??? son of ??? one ??? One the daughter of ??? and a ram one ??? Here, too, Let him say ??? the scripture ??? Just as A sin-offering It is not ??? except by the males of the priesthood Even a ram a Nazir also is not eaten except by the males of the priesthood thus now there i.e., in another mishna immediately As it is written (Num. 6) ??? ??? from ??? from this general principle it would follow ??? for him ??? from this No. ??? except by the males of the priesthood it is a problem And if you wish, I would say my sanctity ??? The holiest of holy offerings No. ??? So rather, for what Watch out for leading vav And the halacha is according to the opinion ??? Rabba said: ??? on one ??? he has fulfilled his obligation

דף נה,א משנה

The thangkgiving-offering and a ram of a Nazir are simple offerings and here are their laws. They are slaughtered in any place in the courtyard and their blood required two presentations that are four and they are eaten in all the city by any person. in all ways of eating for a day and a night until midnight the portion reserved for the priests from them is subject to the same laws as them ??? except that the portion reserved from the priests is eaten only by those to whom it is reserved: to the priests to their wives and to their children and to their slaves

דף נה,א גמרא

The Rabbis taught (Lev. 10) ??? and ??? in a place tahor he said Rabbi ??? And so ??? except tahor from this general principle it would follow that he was tamei tahor ??? one suffering from tzara'at and tamei ??? One suffering from gonorrhea and whichever this this the camp of Israel and so go ahead and say tahor ??? One suffering from gonorrhea and tamei ??? did he die and whichever this this the camp of ??? Israel Rava said: it in a place ??? and not ??? in a place ??? he returns Therefore, to avoid this incorrect deduction, the Merciful One wrote: ??? in a place tahor ??? Israel and so go ahead and say ??? No. ??? If so, ??? also ??? No. ??? And furthermore, (Deut. 12) No. ??? to eat ??? it is written except ???

דף נה,א משנה

peace-offerings are simple offerings and their laws are: they are slaughtered in any place in the courtyard and their blood required two presentations that are four and they are eaten in all the city by any person. in all ways of eating for two days and one night the portion reserved for the priests from them is subject to the same laws as them ??? except that the portion reserved from the priests is eaten only by those to whom it is reserved: to the priests to their wives and to their children and to their slaves

The Rabbis taught (Lev. 3) ??? he opens ??? festival (Lev. 3) ??? that specific before the Tent of Meeting (Lev. 3) ??? that specific before the Tent of Meeting ??? all the storms in the case of simple-holiness offerings. is a kal vachomer ??? for just as The holiest of holy offerings that did not have ??? in all the storms ??? in the north simple offerings ??? in all the storms is it not logical ??? in the north Rabbi Eliezer says: It is not said the scripture except ??? north that it is possible Is it not the case that It would be a logical inference for just as simple offerings ??? in all the storms No. ??? next to The holiest of holy offerings The holiest of holy offerings that did not have ??? except in the north is it not logical that did not have ??? next to simple offerings Scripture states: ??? festival

דף נה,ב גמרא

in what way ??? a Tanna taught: that came first reasoned three ??? are written one ??? he opens ??? festival and one ??? and one ??? and north No. It is necessary to teach this he read and R' Eliezer reasoned one ??? he opens ??? festival and one ??? north and one ??? No. It is necessary to teach this he read Why is it different here, As it is written he opens ??? festival and why is it different there, As it is written before the Tent of Meeting Come and learn from this. Watch out for leading vav And it is like Rav Yehudah Shmuel said for he said: Rav Yehudah Shmuel said peace-offerings ??? before ??? as it is said (Lev. 3) ??? he opens ??? festival at a time i.e., in a case that he was if it was open, and not at a time i.e., in a case that he was ??? it was said: also Mar said: ??? son of Chama he said Rabbi Yosei the son of Rabbi Chanina peace-offerings ??? before ??? as it is said ??? he opens ??? festival at a time i.e., in a case ??? if it was open, and not at a time i.e., in a case that he was ??? in the west he would say over Thus said Rav Ya'akov son of ??? Rav Ashi said peace-offerings ??? before ??? before ??? ??? and after ??? ??? This is obvious! ??? he is equivalent. ??? What then does it mean when it says R' Zayra said: should it itself yes. was it made? except ??? if it was open, ??? What then does it mean when it says Come and hear: as it is taught: R' Yosi ??? Yehudah says two ??? they were in the house of ??? eight so that ??? ??? All of it ??? The holiest of holy offerings ??? simple offerings Is this not That there are in front of them ??? No. ??? They challenged him from this teaching: all ??? that were in that place ??? twenty cubits ??? ten cubits ??? that I ??? them ??? behind the house of ???
