PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

Disclaimers

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

Credits

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

??? I thought to say Because ??? and the blessing of the Service their blood seek burial Come and hear from this. It was taught in the academy of Rabbi Yishmael, (Num. 23) ??? creates an exclusion ??? that is not considers it proper ??? The Rabbis taught ??? blood on ??? Rabbi says ??? Rabbi Chiyya says ??? R' Osha'ya said based on this lit: from after, for Rabbi says ??? and R' Chiyya says ??? do we on who ??? on these are the words of Rabbi Shimon that he was Rabbi Shimon says: ??? and not blood Rav Pappa said: Everyone acknowledges in a case ??? from the beginning and until the end of the whole world does not disagree ??? Because specifically, where they disagree is this: ??? the blood between a sign of ??? Rabbi reasoned that is old ??? from the beginning and until the end of and that one blood ??? he Rabbi Chiyya reasoned It is not ??? except in the rear of and that one blood ??? he And what does it mean when it says ??? until ??? If it was ??? in the rear of ??? considers it proper and if No. No. considers it proper And what does it mean when it says ??? on these are the words of Rabbi Shimon ??? No. considers it proper to Rabbi Chiyya considers it proper ??? Master, No. considers it proper Master, No. considers it proper it was. for him Rabbi one And there is no meaning to the word his words of one in a place two Rav Ashi said: ??? In reality lit: In the world ??? to R' Chiyya ??? from doubt for him If it was that is old ??? from the beginning and until the end of or It is not ??? except in the rear of And what does it mean when it says ??? No. they eat and not ??? And what does it mean when it says ??? on these are the words of Rabbi Shimon ??? No. considers it proper to Rabbi Chiyya doubt in the matter of burning ??? Master, No. ??? Master, No. ??? it was. for him Rabbi one And there is no meaning to the word his words of one in a place two and thus he comes to say For example, this ??? No. they eat and not ??? he is required Rabbi Shimon son of ??? of menuchot offerings: ??? in it ??? and a second person or yes. ??? in it ??? and a second person For ??? that which was sanctified for Temple use ??? of him. ??? and a second person No. or, perhaps, there is no difference R' Elazar said Come and hear: (Lev. 11) from all One who eats who shall eat etc. he eats that comes in water ??? he eats that is not came in water No. ??? because Rabbi Shimon son of ??? he does not have he eats that comes in water Rabbi Shimon son of ??? thus ??? for him ??? that which was sanctified for Temple use ??? that comes in water he is equivalent. or No. Rabbi Eliezer also ??? he comes to say i.e., what he really means is: ??? it is written (Lev. 11) And so ??? water on seed from all One who eats who shall eat why do I have

Is this not ??? that which was sanctified for Temple use No. one ??? did he die and one ??? and It was necessary to teach both, because otherwise you might err when extending one to the other. For if it was we had heard ??? did he die there i.e., in another mishna he who seeks ??? It is because of this: that is not become tamei ??? but: ??? I would say No. that ??? should request and if we had heard ??? It is because of this: that is not become tamei ??? seven but: did he die ??? seven I would say No. that ??? should request Watch out for leading vav And it was necessary to have both statements Rav Yosef challenged this by citing Rabbi Shimon says: ??? and even ??? in them? ??? and a second person why is it that Hey, isn't it the case that Is this not he eats that comes in water he He said to him Abaye ??? as one who caused water According to Rabbinic law, Rabbi Zeira said Come and hear: ??? says ??? Hallel says No. ??? for him Hallel ??? why is it that Hey, isn't it the case that Is this not he eats that comes in water he Abaye said to him: ??? as one who caused water According to Rabbinic law, He said to him Rav Yosef I thought to say to you I ??? and is what you say? Do you really mean that? for me ??? as one who caused water and He could say to you Rabbi Zeira and is what you say? Do you really mean that? for him ??? as one who caused water ??? son of ??? also ??? as one who caused water He said to him: because R' Shimon son of ??? for him For ??? for him ??? from this general principle it would follow ??? that which was sanctified for Temple use a law established by the Torah What is our source for this claim Shall I say From the fact that it is written (Lev. 7) ??? who ??? in all tamei This meat ??? in what way Shall I say ??? with blood For didn't Rabbi Chiyya bar Abba say that R' Yochanan said from where do we learn ??? holy offerings that is not considers it proper as it is said (Deut. 12) No. ??? on the land ??? blood ??? considers it proper that is not ??? he does not considers it proper except ??? the house of ??? Hey, isn't it the case that R' Yosi said the son of Rabbi Chanina ??? the house of ??? No. ??? that are ??? except that do not validate it And if you say ??? a person Hey, isn't it the case that ??? he comes to say i.e., what he really means is: except Is this not ??? that which was sanctified for Temple use and Perhaps Watch out for leading vav And it is like Rav Yehudah Shmuel said for he said: Rav Yehudah Shmuel said For example, ??? to him a cow of ??? peace-offerings and the transgression. ??? it was slaughtered with the intent of consuming it ??? upon it except from the end of the teaching: ??? pieces of wood frankincense pieces of wood frankincense My son, food ??? except ??? that which was sanctified for Temple use ??? them ??? them he eats Here in this case, also, ??? that which was sanctified for Temple use ???
