PREVIEW OF THE DAFCAST WEBSITE FOR CYCLE 13

Please do not forward this link around yet! This is still in development and will be "released", God willing, on August 1, in time for the thirteenth cycle of Daf Yomi.

Disclaimers

This is an early draft. I haven't proofread; there are plenty of typos and probably some more significant errors as well.
Most pages on this site are currently auto-translated. The autotranslations are intended as a starting point for my manual translations. At best, they are awkward stringing-togethers of words and phrases in the corpus database that can benefit from cleaning up. At worst, they are picking the wrong homograph. Auto-translations are indicated by italics.
I am not a rabbi or an expert. These are my translations, and in some cases I am certainly misunderstanding things.
The Talmud is a document of its time. While the Talmud is a foundational document of Judaism, it must be read in its historical context. There are passages that are xenophobic, sexist, and irreconcilable with modern science. Not everything in these pages represents contemporary Judaism.

Copyright

This translation is protected by copyright. I'm putting a lot of effort into this project. Please respect that by only copying with my permission.
I intend to provide free licenses for most uses. I plan to use a Creative Commons CC-NC-BY-SA license, which will allow you to re-use my translations as long as you don't charge money for them (NC), as long as you give me credit (BY), and as long as you make your derived work available under the same terms (SA). But I'm not ready to do that yet because this is still a very rough work-in-progress.
In the meantime, if you want to re-use this, please contact me. I am willing to discuss re-use on an ad hoc basis. Perhaps the one page you want to use is actually ready for re-use. Ask. I'll probably work out a way to say "yes."

I need to clean up this section. But for now, I'll note that I've made use of the Hebrew/Aramaic text of the Bavli at Mechon Mamre; Jastrow's dictionary; "The Practical Talmud Dictionary" by Yitzchak Frank. I've also used the big three translations of the Talmud --- Soncino (English), Artscroll (English), and Steinsaltz (Hebrew) --- and the Kehati (English) edition of the Mishna, to help me understand passages before translating them.

three fields and two ??? and how much time is the duration of fill ??? hundred cubits As it is taught: the plowing ??? makes the house of ??? fill ??? hundred ??? And there is no meaning to the word terumah after terumah ??? Our mishna with whom does it agree? Watch out for leading vav !! And the mishna's view is that of Rabbi Akiva For it was taught in a baraita ??? this after this Rabbi Eliezer says: terumah of both terumah Rabbi Akiva says: yes. terumah of both terumah But the sages say: if he separated terumah ??? yes. terumah of the second terumah and if No. he separated terumah ??? terumah of the second ??? And there is no meaning to the word substitute offerings? they shall make a substitution. ??? What is the reason? Scripture states: (Lev. 27) ??? and not ??? And there is no meaning to the word ??? makes ??? For scripture said: he he and not ??? R' Yehuda says: ??? makes ??? For scripture said: it shall be ??? ??? And the rabbbis ???

דף יג,א משנה

??? and The menuchot offerings: Watch out for leading vav And we do not make substitute offerings? that did not have it is said except livestock ??? Watch out for leading vav And we do not make substitute offerings? as it is said (Lev. 27) No. ??? and not ??? an individual they shall make a substitution. And there is no meaning to the word the community ??? doing substitute offerings? my sanctity ??? the house Watch out for leading vav And we do not make substitute offerings? he said Rabbi Shimon Consider this case: tithe are in the general category he was and for what reason he has fulfilled his obligation to say to you Just as tithe sacrifice an individual they have fulfilled the mitzvah ??? community for just as tithe sacrifice An altar of they have fulfilled the mitzvah ??? the house

דף יג,א גמרא

The Rabbis taught It is possible ??? my sanctity ??? the house doing substitute offerings? Scripture states: (Lev. 27) sacrifice who ??? sacrifice they have fulfilled the mitzvah my sanctity ??? the house that did not have ??? sacrifice and not For it was taught: If it was (Lev. 17) sacrifice listen I even my sanctity ??? the house ??? sacrifice In the same essential way as it is said (Num. 31) ??? sacrifice Hashem etc. Scripture states: (Lev. 17) and do not he opens ??? festival they did not bring all that comes to he opens ??? festival we are guilty on its account It is because of this: ??? except and all that is not came ??? festival we are not guilty on its account It is because of this: ??? except Perhaps, ??? sacrifice he said Rabbi ??? There is no difficulty. this one Rabbi Shimon this one rabbis ??? sacrifice According to the sages, No. ??? sacrifice and not For it is written (Num. 31) ??? sacrifice Hashem sacrifice Hashem ??? sacrifice to Hashem No. ??? The Rabbis taught (Lev. 27) No. ??? between good ??? and not ??? why is it said Does it not clearly ??? say (Lev. 27) No. ??? and not ??? that specific good ??? etc. on account of as it is said No. ??? and not ??? that specific ??? sacrifice an individual sacrifice community sacrifice An altar of sacrifice ??? the house Scripture states: No. ??? he said Rabbi Shimon Consider this case: tithe are in the general category he was and for what reason he has fulfilled his obligation to say to you Just as tithe sacrifice an individual sacrifice An altar of and a thing ??? came and a thing that is not ??? Even all sacrifice an individual sacrifice An altar of and a thing ??? came

דף יג,ב גמרא

and a thing that is not came ??? Rabbi says For what reason was it taken out tithe From here, ??? was his name ??? to say to you ??? was his name ??? It is not ??? was his name ??? It is not ??? on a thing ??? and on a thing that is not ??? was his name It is not ??? except on a thing ??? only. They said: It is because of this: of Rabbi the Merciful One that there is in it: ??? was his name ??? yes. ??? What then does it mean when it says of Rabbi Rabbi And what does it mean when it says that is not Rabbi No. Rabbi Hey, isn't it the case that ??? Rav Huna said the son of of Rav Joshua It is because of this: ??? a thing that comes ??? In the matter ??? And there is no meaning to the word in it except ??? only. He said to him: Rav Nachman bar Yitzchak to Raba to Rabbi Shimon for he said: a thing that comes ??? guilt-obligation She ??? substitute offerings? this one ??? did not say to him ??? also immediately ??? upon it ??? substitute offerings? and not ??? except ??? from ??? What then is the reasoning of If his reasoning is to it like who for he said: are permitted ??? community ??? This is obvious! that is not ??? substitute offerings? this one yes. substitute offerings? by the community except Rabbi Shimon he reasons for himself. like who for he said: are permitted ??? an individual ??? one ??? for him This reason out the logic. Rabbi Eliezer this one ??? for him clearly and explicitly ??? substitute offerings? as it is taught: an elevation-offering ??? from ??? they shall make a substitution. these are the words of Rabbi Eliezer Rabbi Shimon derive it ??? upon it ??? of Rabbi Eliezer reasoned an elevation-offering ??? from ??? they shall make a substitution. ??? reasoned yes. they shall make a substitution. If so, ??? Rabbi Avin: ??? a guilt-offering ??? in it ??? in it ??? after ??? this ??? What then? ??? in it who follow the reasoning ??? ??? Shall I say According to R' Shimon this one is what you say? Do you really mean that? Rabbi Shimon he reasons for himself. an elevation-offering ??? from ??? yes. they shall make a substitution. Rabbi Avin: thus ??? for him If it was ??? a Tanna taught: and it was standing like Rabbi Shimon for he said: yes. ??? and he reasons, like Rabbi Eliezer for he said: an elevation-offering ??? from ??? they shall make a substitution. What then? ??? in it with two ??? "Kedushah" One What then does it mean when it says and if ??? to say "Kedushah" One ??? except two kiddushes ??? one What then does it mean when it says ???
